In order to improve relations between Russia and the United States, it is necessary to join forces with the diaspora, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov is convinced. He said this during his speech at the conference of compatriots, which was held in Washington, TASS reports.
The forum was dedicated to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage and Russian language overseas.
According to the diplomat, in today's difficult situation it is necessary to establish joint work aimed at restoring relations based on friendship and mutual respect. It is very important to promote a positive image of our country, and strengthen communication in business and professional sphere. The ambassador called it the central task of every patriot who loves his country.
The diplomat has no doubt that compatriots living overseas are already doing everything they can to "strengthen Russian world, to establish a constructive dialogue between Russia and the United States". Anatoly Antonov stressed that maintaining spiritual and historical unity is a common duty.
He also said that for the Russian diplomatic mission in the United States, the main goal remains to preserve and promote Russian language.
It is extremely important that the next generations of immigrants from Russia retain their own identity, love for their native language, respect their national culture and feel involved in what is happening in their historic homeland.
Head of diplomatic mission said that about a hundred schools established by compatriots work in different American states. Russian theaters and libraries organize festivals, competitions, exhibitions, concerts, and charity events.
An important role in the development of ties between compatriots and Russia belongs to Russian Orthodox Church and other faiths.
He also wants young compatriots to visit Russia, to know about its achievements.
