Beanpole drama by Balagov gets Best Director award at Cannes

Young Russian director Kantemir Balagov received the Best Director Prize at the Cannes Film Festival companion competition section, Un Certain Regard. Balagov is 27 years old, he's a student of famous Russian director Sokurov.

His new film Beanpole follows two young women as they rebuild their lives in 1945, among the post-siege ruins of Leningrad, RIA Novosti informs.

The film produced Alexander Rodnyansky, has received the prise for Kantemir. According to the producer, the film will go on a big screen in France this summer. Un Certain Regard section is choosing the most original and experimental films.

As we reported before, Balagov’s Closeness won the Cannes' FIPRESCI award in 2017.

Note, there were dozens agreements on Russian movies distribution signed during the Cannes Film Festival. Russian films are going to be screened in all parts of the world, including Europe, Asia, Latin America. Buka animation is a leader of the Russian film market. It's going to be screened in more than 30 countries.
