Chinese writer told about influence of Russian literature on consciousness of country’s inhabitants

Russian and Soviet literature strongly influenced the Chinese mind, well-known writer and Vice-President of Beijing Writers Association Cao Wenxuan said. The winner of the prestigious international literary award named after Andersen said that Chinese literature is known to Russians less than Russian classics are to Chinese, and called for increased cooperation between countries in the field of culture, EKD! reports.

Cao Wensiuan said that for many years he was an avid fan of Russian and Soviet literature. He read all the published works of some classics like Leo Tolstoy and Anton Chekhov. But his favorite Russian writer is Mikhail Sholokhov. 

Cao Wensiuan expressed regret that Chinese literature and writers are not well known in Russia, and cultural exchanges in their scope are still inferior to the level of political and economic cooperation between the countries. 

At the same time, he acknowledged that the culture of China is becoming more recognizable in Russia and other countries of the world. Writer said that the promotion of Chinese culture contributes to the growth of the economic power of the country.

Cao Wensuan is known as the author of books for children, six of his writings have been translated into Russian.
