Vladimir Tolstoy elected head of Russian Language Teachers Association

The General Assembly of the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (IATRLL) elected its new president on May 2. Vladimir Tolstoy, the adviser to the President of Russia on cultural issues and the head of the Russian Language Council under the President of the Russian Federation was chosen as the new president of the association.

Vladimir Tolstoy is a Russian journalist and writer. The great-grandson of the classic of Russian literature was born in 1962 in the Moscow region. He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Lomonosov Moscow State University. For many years he headed the museum-reserve of Lev Tolstoy, Yasnaya Polyana. In 1997, he became chairman of the Central Council of the Association of Museum Workers of the Regions of Russia, which is engaged in uniting Russian regional museums. Vladimir Tolstoy also represents our country in the Network of European Museum Associations.

Vladimir Ilyich is the organizer of the congresses of the descendants of Leo Tolstoy. These meetings bring together over two hundred descendants of the great writer living in Russia and other countries. Vladimir Tolstoy is the founder of the Leo Tolstoy Heritage Foundation and the annual International Writers Meetings in Yasnaya Polyana.

Vladimir Tolstoy has been an adviser to the President on cultural issues since 2012.

Russkiy Mir reported that the 14th Congress of IATRLL took place in Kazakhstan. Its theme was The Russian word in a multilingual world. The congress was organized with the support of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, and the opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board of the Foundation, Vyacheslav Nikonov.

It was decided to hold the next congress of the association in St. Petersburg.
