Russian President Vladimir Putin put his signature on the draft law on visa-free entry of fans into the country during the European Football Championship matches in St. Petersburg, which is to take place in 2020. The law applies to fan passport holders (FAN ID). The document was published on May 1 on the official Internet portal of legal information.

Foreign fans from the countries with which Russia has a visa regime have the opportunity to freely enter and leave the territory of the Russian Federation if they have a special fan passport. With FAN ID, you can enter Russia two weeks before the first match.

Russkiy Mir reported that a similar system operated during the world football championship last summer. The law was later extended until the end of 2018.

For volunteers it is enough to get an ordinary humanitarian visa. On the day of each match and on the following day fans, participants, volunteers and journalists will be able to use public transport in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region for free.

The European Championship will be held from June 12 to July 12, 2020. The final part of of the tournament will be held in twelve European cities in order to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tournament. St. Petersburg will host three matches in the group stage and the quarterfinals.
