Cinema figures from fifty countries from all over the world will gather in early autumn in Saint-Petersburg, RIA Novosti reports. The city will host a symposium of the International Association of Film Commissions.

According to experts, it can turn into the first step towards an increase in the number of filming in Russia. In turn, this will affect the development of tourist flow.

Participants include members of national film commissions, producers, representatives of Marvel Studios, The Walt Disney Studios, Netflix, HBO, Lionsgate, Warner Brothers, Youtube and other major film companies. The Association of Tour Operators explained that the cinema tourism market in our country was practically undeveloped. Many producers even do not know that it is possible to film in Russia and there are a variety of natural landscapes and historical locations. In addition, the filming process in Russia is cheaper.

The symposium is going to take place in Saint-Petersburg because it has a little experience in cinema tourism. Some scenes of the BBC’s War and Peace were shot there. This work turned out to be very successful. More than nine million viewers watched the first episode in Britain, the average audience of each episode reached almost eight million people. The novel for the first time became one of the most popular literary works in the UK after the series came out.

As a result, the number of British tourists willing to visit Russia increased. The British are interested in the history and culture of our country. The tours of the filming sites were organized for them. Three tourist routes to places where the BBC company worked were also organized in Lithuania, where most of the series was filmed.
