Theatrical critics called Modest Musorgsky’s opera Khovanshchina a brilliant joint success of La Scala Theater and the Mariinsky Theater, the website of Russia’s Ministry of Culture reports. The opera was performed for the final time in Milan on Friday. Valery Gergiev took the place at the conductor's stand. After the performance, the audience did not let the artists leave the stage for half an hour, giving them a stormy and lengthy ovation.

Note, the Musorgsky's masterpiece was performed in La Scala for the first time in two decades. Mario Martone is a production director. Leading soloists of the Mariinsky Opera Company troupe are in the lead roles. Students of the Academy at La Scala sing with them. One of the reviewers is convinced that Gergiev seemed to be able to summon "the spirit of his homeland - the chernozem force," as Mussorgsky wrote ... A wonderful selection of soloists, mostly from the Mariinsky Theater, completed the exciting drama. "

Another author notes that the opera was in sync with the current time. According to him, the audience remained mesmerized by the tangled Russian history of the late seventeenth century for four hours. The success of this masterpiece belongs primarily to Valery Gergiev, critics say, but the soloists are also highly appreciated.

Many call the work of the maestro in La Scala incomparable, energetic and accurate.
