Days of Russian-Arab friendship started in Syria

Days of Russian-Arab friendship are held in Syria, TASS reports. The opening ceremony took place this weekend. Diplomats, parliamentarians, cultural figures, representatives of the authorities and media attended it. Immigrants from Russia living in Syria joined them.

The initiative of the Days belongs to Russian-Arab Cultural Center, a public organization from Saint Petersburg. Its main goal is to promote a positive image of our country in Middle East. They also contribute to the popularization of Russian language study and acquaint the locals with Russian culture and traditions, national history, and modern Russia.

The program includes concerts of creative groups and screenings of documentaries. Photo exhibition opened in Damascus. It is organized by Russian Geographical Society.

According to the Russian Ambassador Alexander Efimov, 2019 marks 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moscow and Damascus. During all these decades, the two countries remained allies, partners and friends in all spheres. The diplomat noted that Russia helped people of Syria when international terrorists attacked the country. He promised that the action would be only the beginning of a long journey. It is planned to implement several major cultural projects. The most important one will be the resumption of the work of Russian Center for Science and Culture in Damascus.

Days of Russian-Arab friendship will be held in Lebanon as well.
