Greece celebrated World Poetry Day with reading works of Russian authors

22.03.2019

The Avant-Garde Culture and Development Center in Greece celebrated World Poetry Day with the Poem More Than Life evening.

The Center held the project dedicated to Russian literature for the second year in a row. Famous cultural figures were the participants of the event. Actors and directors read poems and excerpts from the works of Russian poets and writers in Greek.

One of the most popular radio stations of the Greek radio To Kokkino told the audience about the project. It dedicated a whole program to Russian poetry, inviting representatives of Avant Garde to talk. The project acquired a new format at the end of 2018. Wonderful Russian directors, members of the Laboratory of the Director Adolf Shapiro, read the poems of Greek authors in Russian. The most remarkable thing is that these readings gathered a huge Greek audience. The project received a great response because the current year has been declared the Cross Year of Language and Literature in Russia and Greece.

Poetry Day is traditionally celebrated widely in Greece, because Greek literature primarily consists of poetry. The structure of Greek language, its floating emphasis, grammar based on harmony and the exceptional musicality of the language dispose to this.
