Memorial event in honor of Soviet pilots who died during the Spanish Civil War took place in Mora de Rubielos, Spain, TASS reports. The Republican Pilot Association became its organizer. Participants of the event honored the memory of Ivan Boldyrev, Peter Latyshev and Anatoly Gorelov. They died in battle for Teruel in 1938, which was one of the largest air battles of that war.

Representatives of local authorities and public attended the action. They observed a minute of silence in memory of the dead. The anthems of the two countries sounded, and wreath was laid at the tomb.

Similar event took place in La Senia. There was one of the largest airfields of republican forces during the civil war. There is a museum and the center of Association of Republican pilots today.

Spanish Civil War lasted from 1936 to 1939. Soviet Union helped Spanish Republic defeat the rebellious General Francisco Franco’s dictatorship. According to historians, from three to six thousand Soviet soldiers took part in the war, including about 800 pilots. Approximately one in four of them did not return.

Civil War in Spain is considered one of the most significant pages in the country's history. Memorial events related to the Civil War are national events in the country.
