Radio inventor Popov 160th anniversary celebrated in Russia

The program of events dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the inventor of radio Alexander Popov in Perm region will include scientific and practical conferences, meetings with communications veterans, the opening of exhibitions and a motor rally. The events will open with a festive rally at the monument to Popov in Perm and a divine service, Perm State TV and Radio Company reports. Alexander Popov is remembered in the CIS countries; an exhibition-seminar in memory of Russian physicist was held in Uzbekistan. 

Alexander Popov was born in Turyinskie Rudniki village in Perm province in the family of a priest. Alexander Popov could also follow the path of his father. He graduated from Perm Theological Seminary, but his interest in science took over. He entered Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Saint Petersburg University. The main invention of the talented scientist, which contributed the name of Popov to the history of world science, was a radio transmitter, demonstrated to the scientific community in 1895. Russian navy, for which the invention was intended, began to use it almost immediately after testing. 

Visitors of the exhibition and seminar, which was held at the Museum of the History of Communications of Uzbekistan, told about the scientific activities and inventions of Alexander Popov in Tashkent. The exhibition was organized by the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Tashkent, the organization’s website reports. As a gift from the Russian side, the museum will receive a unique exhibit - Spectrum Soviet computer. 

In addition to Perm, a memorial plaque in honor of Alexander Popov was installed in Sevastopol. Popov Museums opened in Krasnoturinsk, Kronstadt and Saint Petersburg.
