Russians have long become an integral part of Argentina, Ambassador of Argentina to Russia Ricardo Ernesto Lagorio said. According to him, they are mixed with locals, engaged in politics, business, work in field of culture, the Federal News Agency informs. The beginning of this process was laid at the end of 19th century, when the first settlers from Russia began to arrive in the country. The development of Argentina as a country was done by immigrants from other countries, and Russian people made a huge contribution to the formation of statehood.

The diplomat recalled that the first Orthodox church was built in Buenos Aires almost 120 years ago.

There is no doubt, he added, that huge distance separating the two countries does not prevent their inhabitants from feeling close. Russians and Argentines are very similar to each other. No wonder the Argentine residents who were able to visit Russia keep fond memories in their hearts forever. Fans who had been to the World Football Championship returned home being in love with Russia.

As Russkiy Mir reported, Russian ambassador to Argentina Dmitry Feoktistov announced plans to launch the lessons of Russian language, history and culture of Russia in one of Argentine schools. The project is implemented in close contact with compatriots living in Argentina.
