2019 and 2020 will be cross years for Russia and Vietnam, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recalled. He said this in the interview with Vietnamese Television and Chinese TV channels, MFA Russia website reports.

Cross years coincide with quarter-century anniversary of signing the Treaty of Friendship. The 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Vietnam will be celebrated in a year.

It should be recalled that Deputy Chairman of Russian Government Maxim Akimov was appointed to the position of Head of the organizing committee from the Russian side, and Special Representative of Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation, former Minister of Culture Mikhail Shvydkoy became the coordinator.

Sergey Lavrov promised that cross year’s program would be prepared soon. It will include hundreds of different events that will cover all aspects of cooperation between the two countries. Head of Russian diplomacy expressed hope that residents of Vietnam and Russia would enjoy the cultural part of these cross years and the real benefits from investment and other projects.

Our peoples have always had very strong ties in cultural and humanitarian spheres, Sergey Lavrov emphasized. Today, Vietnam firmly holds leading position in number of students, who get their education in higher institutions of Russia. At the moment, the number of Vietnamese students in Russia has exceeded 6,000. Two thousand of them study on government quotas.

Nearly a thousand Vietnamese students enrolled in Russian universities this academic year.
