Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers blocking RT accounts on Facebook as a direct and unreasonable pressure on information sources that are undesirable for US authorities, MFA website says. The current situation is called “unacceptable”. Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the social network of violating the principles of freedom of expression and equal access to information.

Russian diplomats demanded a reaction to these actions of relevant international entities and appealed to human rights institutions for an assessment of such a “free” Internet in the American way.

According to Philip Lerut, who heads the International Federation of Journalists, blocking multiple accounts of RT channel on Facebook is nothing more than censorship.

It should be recalled that access to In the Now project of RT broadcaster Anissa Naway was closed after the material on CNN. American journalists talked about the relations of In the Now with Russia. At the same time, the project itself did not contradict the rules of the social network. According to Margarita Simonyan, who heads RT, the English-speaking project has never tried to hide the source of its funding. The project was fantastically successful. The number of its Facebook subscribers reached 4 million, and the number of views exceeded 2.5 billion.

On a tip from the fund, sponsored by the US authorities, CNN prepared the material and asked Facebook how it allowed Russian intervention. Facebook immediately turned on the lock without making any charges or complaints.

In addition to In the Now, Facebook has blocked pages related to it, such as Soapbox, Waste-Ed and Backthen.
