Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at Munich Security Conference, called for a return to Charles de Gaulle’s idea of a unified space from Lisbon to Vladivostok, from which all participants of the process will benefit. According to Lavrov, European countries have been drawn into a confrontation with Russia, which is why the European Union is losing opportunities and a lot of money, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

According to Sergey Lavrov, the West continues to adhere to the tactics of “iron curtain”, which is clearly outdated. Because of this, the opportunities are not realized and time is wasted, which has led to the redistribution of power balance on the continent and the development of new global centers in Asia-Pacific region. Russian minister expressed regret that four road maps for the rapprochement between Russia and the European Union, as well as Russia and NATO, developed and approved by all parties, were forgotten, and said that the need is ripe.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the conviction that common economic space is already taking shape through the interaction of the EAEU and Chinese Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In addition, cooperation between Russia and the ASEAN countries is expanding. These and other processes are links of the same chain for the creation of the Great Eurasian Partnership.

Sergey Lavrov emphasized that Russia, contrary to the opinion prevalent in the West, does not want to weaken the European Union, but it is interested in being strong, open and independent.
