12th Winter Arts Festival starts in Sochi

Winter Arts Festival starts in Sochi on Thursday, February 14, RIA Novosti reports. It has turned into one of the largest cultural forums in our country over 12 years of its existence. The artistic director is Yuri Bashmet. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent greetings to guests and participants of the festival. The Russian leader noted that this festival "is considered to be one of the brightest and successful projects of international humanitarian cooperation, a true decoration of the cultural life of Sochi and the whole country". 

Residents and guests of Sochi will enjoy many various activities for 10 days. They will have a unique opportunity to attend concerts and performances of famous domestic and world performers. 

The artistic director promised that the festival would present three world premieres at once. Works of Valery Voronov, Patrick de Klerk and Gia Wang will be performed for the first time. 

As Russkiy Mir reported, performers from Russia, Belgium, Spain, Korea, Germany, USA, France and Taiwan will become participants of the Sochi festival. One of its permanent participants is Konstantin Khabensky. He will present Don’t Leave Your Planet play Together with Yuri Bashmet. It has great success in Russia and abroad. 

The educational part is traditionally a large place in the program of the festival. Classes will be held at the International Academy of Music. Video art lab, photography school and young journalists’ school will be working. 

For the first time since 2014, the Parallel Worlds. Russian Art of 20th century. Part 2 project will be implemented. It will present poets, musicians and artists who worked from 1946 to 1956. 

Territory guest program with a series of performances from different years, lectures and master classes will become a special event of the festival.
