Festival of Russian contemporary cinema started in Finland

Audience in Helsinki will watch 14 movies within the frameworks of Kino Lokakuu festival of Russian contemporary cinema, which is held from February 12 to 17. The program includes feature films and short films, as well as meetings with Russian cinema figures during the screenings. The program is composed so that Finnish viewers and compatriots could see the most vivid Russian films that have received national and international film awards, portal Yle.fi reports. 

The festival has been organized by the Finland-Russia Society since 2006. The festival program includes Sobibor by Konstantin Khabensky, which was nominated for Oscar, and Alexey Fedorchenko’s film Anna's War, which won the Golden Eagle Russian film award. Movies Closeness, Mira, The Story of One Destination will also be shown. Short films and documentaries will take part in the festival for the first time. The organizers also chose movies created in Russian republics; the Tatar drama Mullah and The Tsar-Bird filmed in Yakutia. 

All festival films are shown in the original language with English subtitles. 

Viewers of Heart of the World movie will be able to meet with its director Natalia Meshchaninova and actor Stepan Devonin. Director Mikhail Segal, who will present his film Elephants Can Play Football in Helsinki, told Yle.fi that the story in his film is international.
