The anniversary of poet and writer Ivan Krylov is celebrated in Russia, Kultura TV channel reports. February 13 marks 250 years since the famous fabulist’s birth.

The fame of writer, journalist, bibliographer, academician of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences became enormous after 40 years old, when he has started writing fables in verses. Though he began as a translator and imitator of existing fables, Krylov soon started writing his own fables with moral at the end. Russians know his fables by heart not only because they are included in every primary school program but also because they ridicule society and people's shortcomings.

Russian writers Gogol and Pushkin spoke enthusiastically about Krylov. He was considered a kind and gluttony man, nicknamed 'Grandfather Krylov'. However, researchers are confident that poetic gift and philosophical turn of mind put Krylov on a par with famous French fabulist La Fontaine.

Social networks users launched a special flashmob in honour of the writer. Chief Director of the Moscow Drama Theater Vladimir Skvortsov was its initiator.

To join the flashmob, щту need to read a fable, publish a video on the Internet and pass the baton to your friends.

Actors from the Tver Theater picked up this idea.

Ivan Krylov was born on February 13, 1769 in Moscow in the family of a poor officer. A few years later, their family moved to Tver. He began studying music from an early age there, along with foreign languages and science. He did a lot of work, despite the fact that he did not get any education.

Having moved to Saint Petersburg, he became interested in literature and started writing. His fables were published in magazines. He has achieved notable success in public service.
