The number of Czechs studying Russian language has increased five times in the last ten years. Russian has become the third most common language in Czech Republic and the third most popular foreign language for learning after English and German. This data from the Czech Statistical Office (CSO) is quoted by Around Prague portal.

According to CSO research, Russian language in the Czech Republic was studied by 1.3% a little more than ten years ago. This number rose to 6.6% in 2018. The number of Czechs who have decided to learn Russian language has increased by 43 thousand in 10 years, and today it exceeds 52 thousand citizens of the country. This allowed Russian language to enter the top three foreign languages that are most popular for learning, leaving behind French, Spanish, Italian and other common European languages.

Around Prague journalist notes that parents have a right to choose a language to learn at Czech schools, but most of them choose English in order to avoid difficulties if the child needs to move to another school for some reason.
