Русский православный приход, действующий в итальянском Сан-Ремо, решил перейти в юрисдикцию Русской зарубежной церкви, сообщает РИА «Новости». Ранее он входил в Русский экзархат Западной Европы, который был распущен Константинополем.

Russian Orthodox parish in San Remo, Italy, decided to come to jurisdiction of Russian Church Abroad, RIA Novosti informs. It was a part of Russian Exarchate of Western Europe, which was dissolved by Constantinople.

Head of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Sanremo Dionysios Baykov called on other communities of the Archbishopric to follow their example.

According to him, the parish council supported the decision on the transition to Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR). The priest explained that the statement of the official representative of Constantinople Patriarchate in Italy became an additional incentive for transition. It prohibited priests’ ministry and made claim to Sanremo temple.

Archbishopric did not respond parish to this statement. The priest emphasized that parish is a separate structure and has the right for self-determination in accordance with laws of Italy.

Among other things, the Archbishopric itself tried to put pressure on the community. The representative of Exarchate called the transfer to ROCOR illegal and non-canonical, and intended to prevent the meeting, where this issue was discussed, but he failed.

It is our fervent hope that no one else will claim our temple. We have always strongly believed that Russian Exarchate respects the free choice of every person,” Dionysius Baikov notes. “We will be able to preserve the rich spiritual culture and historical heritage of our Archbishopric only as part of the parishes of the ROCOR,” the message says.

It should be recalled that the Center of Western European Exarchate of Russian parishes is located in Paris. The Archbishopric includes parishes that were created by Russian emigrants of the first wave, who were forced to leave Russia in the first half of last century after the October Revolution. The Exarchate has 65 parishes, over 30 communities, about 10 churches, two monasteries and seven sketes today.

Patriarch of Constantinople announced its dissolution at the end of last year.
