The week of Russian cinema has ended in New York, where the most popular features were screened with a full house. The festival was held in the Big Apple after a five-year break. The films themselves, as well as the meetings with their creators and actors inspired the public so much that it was decided to make the festival annual.

As Russkiy Mir reported before, 15 films of all genres and for all ages were brought to New York. Almost all of them were the new features which interested Russian viewers and critic the most. The poetic Hoffmaniada took 10 years of work for outstanding artist Mikhail Shemyakin. Among them were also the road movie How Vitka Garlic carried Lenka Pin to the disabled home and The Story of a Single Appointment - a real episode from the life of young Leo Tolstoy.

"Culture truly unites people because it is out of politics. I think it is very important to get acquainted with the culture of other nations, because ignorance breeds fear and hatred, and knowledge creates love and understanding, " said Magda Katz, Time Square Chronicles journalist.
There were two symbols on the poster of film week: the silhouette of the Russian matryoshka frames the statue of Liberty. And there is no "uncomfortable" overtones in it. Russian films are welcome in the States, that is why it was decided to hold the festival annually and expand it to more American cities.
