Qualification courses for teachers of the Russian language and translators have started in Havana. About 60 people participate in it, TASS reports.
The Pushkin State Russian Language Institute organized lectures, masterclasses and other events for the participants. The classes are held at the University of Havana. Teachers study various teaching techniques for students with different levels of knowledge. They also examine the technical innovations in teaching.

Upon completion of the course, all students will receive a certificate that will help them in their future professional activities.

Vladimir Yaroshevsky, who heads the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo on Cuba, is convinced that local teachers need methodological assistance. According to him, the interest in studying the Russian language is on the rise today. There is nothing surprising in this - relations between Cuba and Russia are developing in all spheres, he added.

The Pushkin Institute also holds a competition in the Russian language among the students of the University of Havana, Rossotrudnichestvo reports. About 40 people has joined it. They were divided into groups according to their level of knowledge. Each group was offered to complete assignments with different degrees of difficulty.

Russian specialists lecture for students during a course that has been going for a week now and two thirds of it is still ahead.

Russkiy Mir reported that a bachelor’s degree in Russian and a second foreign language was opened at the University of Havana, where the Russian language department works, and students can study using electronic textbooks without going online. The courses of the Russian language operate in two schools in the Cuban capital.

The main obstacle for today is the lack of personnel - the teachers of the Russian language in the country are sorely lacking.
