Russia and Germany, long-time partners in the development of science and education, have come up with a program of cooperation for the next decade. Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Mikhail Kotyukov and Germany’s Education Minister Anja Karliczek signed the roadmap for cooperation in education, science, research and innovation, TASS reports.

According to the Russian minister, the long-term document shows that the parties are genuinely interested in cooperation and are confident that they will remain partners for many years. Kotyukov noted that the agreement would be the foundation for further cooperation and the basis for future joint projects of young scientists of the two countries. The German minister was convinced that the roadmap would take scientific cooperation between Russia and Germany to a new level. According to Karliczek, the interaction in the field of education and science promotes mutual understanding between nations.

The roadmap of scientific and educational cooperation is not a declarative but quite a specific comprehensive document, which sets out the directions of future cooperation for two countries. Russia and Germany will jointly develop a large research infrastructure and implement research projects in areas that meet the interests of the two countries. A separate point of the roadmap indicates the development of interaction between science, society and the economy. The agreement was drawn up with the help of research organizations and patrons.

Russian-German scientific forum can become one of the first events organized within the framework of the agreement. The parties agreed to hold it at the end of 2019. The roadmap will be presented to the scientific community of two countries at this event.

Russia and Germany have a long history of cooperation in science, joint projects and research have not been interrupted during the period of the most strained relations between Western countries and Russia. Germany remains the leader in a number of joint research projects with Russia, some of them have become part of Russia's state programs.
