Russian Ambassador to USA urges compatriots to remember motherland and overcome Russophobia

Young compatriots in the United States as well as their peers in Russia and other countries should keep  consolidation of the Russian worlds their parents do. Therefore, they must not forget the Russian language and its heritage, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said at the Youth Forum in New York. According to the ambassador, the study of the Russian language, participation in actions of Russian-speaking organizations and trips to Russia are the best vaccine against Russophobia for Russian-speaking US youth, TASS reports.

The ambassador urged young compatriots to actively participate in various Russian-language theater festivals, creative and educational events organized by compatriots' organizations. They should not forget about the Russian libraries opened in the United States so that compatriots do not forget their native language and always have a connection with Russian culture and history.

According to the ambassador, it is crucial to visit Russia as often as possible in order to see with your own eyes the changes that take place in the homeland of young people or their ancestors. The trips can be facilitated by the Hello, Russia! program. It allows hundreds of young compatriots to visit Russia. The ambassador reminded that in 2019, Russia and the world will celebrate the anniversaries of Nikolai Gogol, Alexander Pushkin, Ivan Krylov, Anna Akhmatova. According to Antonov, anniversaries are an excellent opportunity to read the works of Russian writers again.

Preservation of the common cultural and historical heritage was very important, the diplomat said. Anatoly Antonov told the youth about the significant achievements that the Russian side has achieved in this area. This is the installation of a worship cross in the Russian fortress Fort Ross, maintaining of the Russian soldiers graves who died in different wars, the installation of tombstones and busts. According to him, the common history brings the Russian and American peoples together.

The diplomat asked the youth to take part in the events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade next year in January. He also called on compatriots to pay attention to veterans of World War II living in the United States.

Earlier Russkiy Mir reported the annual Youth Forum to open in New York on November 30 at the Consulate General of Russia. It gathered about 200 leaders of youth movements and organizations of young compatriots aged 18 to 35. Participants discuss the future of Russian youth in the United States and the development of the Russian-speaking community, the preservation of the Russian historical heritage and the popularization of Russian culture.
