The department of the Russian language and literature has been launched in Yeditepe University in Istambul, Turkey, Rossotrudnichestvo reports. Russian diplomats, representatives of the city administration, students, teachers, as well as Russian compatriots were the guests of the opening ceremony.

According to the university founder Bedrettin Dalan, it was he who decided that the university needed a department of Russian language. He is convinced that Turkish students need to study Russian, which is a tool for interethnic and business communication. In addition, the language may provide better understanding of the people’s mentality, their culture and traditions.

Tamara Gurtuyeva, the head of the new department, voiced confidence that the Russian language and the great Russian literature had a significant place in world culture. In her opinion, the department of the Russian language should help attract students to this treasure.

Yeditepe University has been operating for more than twenty years. The school is actively involved in international programs aimed at the academic exchange of students and teachers between universities.
