Festival of Russian cinema in France to focus on women issue

Avdotya Smirnova's drama The Story of a Single Appointment, No Strangers by Vera Glagoleva and other films by Russian female directors will be shown on November 20-25 at the Russian film festival in French town of Honfleur. The 26th festival will focus on women in contemporary cinema, Maxine & Co. Association reports. In addition, the cinema forum will include a round table on the role of women in modern Russian and European cinema. Russian and French filmmakers and critics will take part in it.

The program of the 26th festival of Russian cinema will not be limited to films by female directors. The film forum will be opened by Yevgeny Shelyakin’s comedy The Eternal Life of Alexander Khristoforov. Also during the festival, viewers will see new pictures of such famous directors as Alexander Kott, Kirill Serebrennikov, Alexey Fedorchenko, Pavel Mirzoev etc.

However, the festival will concentrate on the pictures by female directors. On the first festival day, spectaculars will see Avdotya Smirnova's The Story of a Single Appointment which has already represented Russia at many festivals. One of the characters of the film is writer Leo Tolstoy in his younger years. The last picture by Vera Glagoleva, who died last year, will also be shown. The No strangers film tells about life in the Russian countryside. The program of the forum includes films directed by Natalia Pershina, Oksana Karas, Yulia Mironova, Natalia Nazarova and so on.

Most of the works presented at the festival were released in 2018. However, there will be the screening of Vladimir Menshov’s Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears. The Soviet film classics will be shown with French subtitles.
