The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) complained that some delegations were not ready to speak at the UN against the spread of Nazi ideas. The MFA statement comments on the results of voting for a resolution on the fight against Nazism and extremism, TASS reports.

Moscow proposed a draft resolution to the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Issues Committee (Third Committee) of the UN General Assembly. More than 50 countries have become its co-authors. 130 countries voted for it. Only Washington and Kiev voted against the draft.

The statement notes that some delegations, justifying themselves with freedoms of speech, opinion and assembly, decided not to oppose the promotion of racism and extremism. These steps contradict to the international treaties. The Russian ministry stressed that the creation of the UN was a response to the crimes of the Nazis and their partisans who were trying to implement the theory of racial superiority. “To deny these crimes is immoral and blasphemous,” Russian diplomats claim.

The voting results turned into another proof that most countries support the traditional Russian initiative.

The resolution is not devoted to echoes of the past but to the current events and very dangerous manifestations of racism. They are a threat to the entire international community, the authors of the commentary emphasize.

The resolution expresses concern about the desire to justify the former members of the SS organization, including the Waffen-SS units that participated in the extermination of civilians and were recognized as criminals in Nuremberg. Out of the indulgence of the Nazism glorification the struggle began with monuments in honor of the fighters against Nazism while declaring heroes those who fought for fascism.
