09.11.2018

Turgenev's Girl Competition for young fashion designers has been held on November 6, 2018. The competition is part of the project The Great Humanist Turgenev: a Look from the 21st Century dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of the writer. The Russkiy Mir Foundation supports the event.

Students from the 8-10th grades took part in the Turgenev's Girl competition. Russian language, literature teachers, teachers of additional education and parents supported, instructed and helped the contestants. The classmates was their support teams.

The competition was held for the first time and aroused genuine interest among students. The competition was conducted during the autumn holidays on the eve of the 200th birth anniversary of the Russian classic.

According to the contest rules, the participants had to present an image of a Turgenev girl from modern point of view. The girls studied the works of Turgenev, the costume and etiquette of the second half of the 19th century, created clothes.

The jury consisted of teachers of the Minsk City Institute for the Development of Education and the Minsk State Palace of Children and Youth.

Competitive performances offered some creative tasks: self-presentation; reading excerpts from Turgenev's works; representations of the Turgenev girl image; vocal, dance, music performances and the intellectual quiz which offered to recognize the writer's work by one passage.

All participants are invited to the Turgenev Ball in Minsk on November 8 to learn the results and see the award ceremony.
