The Russian language competition has started at Shanghai University of Foreign Languages, Xinhua news agency reports. The Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China organized the event.

Nearly 350 students from 150 Chinese universities joined the contest. The 60 best experts on Russian language will go to Russia for an internship or a degree program at the state's expense.

The competition of the Russian language has become an annual tradition since 2008. During the years of its existence more than 2000 people took part in it.

The organizers note that the competition contributes to the strengthening of friendship between the Russian and Chinese peoples and also promotes the development of cooperation in all sectors. In addition, it helps promote studient exchanges.

According to Russkiy Mir, students in China increasingly prefer to learn Russian. The demand for Russian-speaking specialists has increased significantly due to the strengthening of relations with the Russian Federation. In addition, the ties between the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Eurasian Economic Union also help this.
