Igor Butman, Russian jazz musician well-known around the world, highly appreciates being honored with the American award for strengthening of cultural ties and dialogue between Russia and the US and calls on political figures of both countries to respect each other and come to compromises, TASS reports. On November 1st he will be presented with the award of the Sustained Dialogue Institute for “monumental contribution in overcoming conflicts through art” and for musical exchanges, which he organized in Washington to draw people of different nations closer together. Butman is the first Russian cultural figure honored with such award.

"We really take a lot of actions, which technically enable us to find areas of common interest despite tough aspects in current relations between politicians of our countries. It can be achieved through the talent, music, culture, and inviting enormous number of our American colleagues to Russia for concerts and otherwise,” Butman stated.

According to the jazzman, he, in particular, makes efforts to “unite musicians who take part in international projects and find new directions in development of jazz."
