Russian theatre seasons commenced in Cyprus, the website “PenzaSMI” reports. The event was opened in the city of Paphos by artists of the Lunacharsky Drama Theater from Penza. The audience was presented with the stage performance “Is there a doctor in the hall?” The house was filled with our compatriots living on the island, as well as with locals. To ensure their understanding of the play, the staging was accompanied by Greek and English subtitles.

The audience warmly welcomed the work of Ansar Khalilullin, a director from Moscow. It is based on the fantastic parable by Elizaveta Trusevich, our contemporary Russian play writer. She talks about doctors and writers, as well as those who managed to combine these two domains. The characters include Chekhov, Bulgakov, Pushkin and others.

Tomorrow Russian actors will be welcomed in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia.

Staging of well-known Moscow theatres, as well as tours of performance ensembles from various regions of our country have been scheduled as a part of Russian theatre seasons, which will continue for three years. Furthermore, theatres from European countries will also take part in the event. Their stage performances will be based on works of Russian literature. The project is associated with the Year of Theater, which will take place in Russia in 2019.
