Oldest school in Norway opens Russian library room

The Russkiy Mir library room created with the support of the Russkiy Mir Foundation has been opened at the Oslo Cathedral School in Norway on October 23.


The head of the foreign languages ​​section T. Biero said the opportunity to learn Russian in the oldest school in Norway (opened in 1153) has existed for a very long time. Many well-known people from science, culture, business and politic spheres graduated from the school. Among its graduates there is King Harald of Norway and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Director of the Saint Petersburg branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, Oleg Mukovsky, shared with the teachers, school studients, representatives of other educational institutions in Norway information about the work of the foundation in the Scandinavian countries and what prospects the Russian language learning opens for them. Senior Advisor of the Russian Embassy in Norway Andrey Kolesnikov apprised the joint work of the foundation, embassy, ​​ Norwegian National Center for Foreign Languages ​​and the Oslo Cathedral School.


Director of the Center for Foreign Languages ​​Steinar Nubile spoke about the role of Russian among the other most important school education languages ​​in the country. The teacher of the Russian language and the employee of the center E. Kristian provided information on the state of affairs with the teaching of the Russian language in Norway. The school students spoke about the very different reasons which motivate them to study Russian. This is an interest in Russia, its culture, Russian relatives and friends and a pure pragmatic interest in being higher in the labor market in Norway and Europe.


All participants in the ceremony agreed to continue efforts to improve the teaching of the Russian language at school, expand the material base of such development and contacts with Russia.
