The Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew should restore the dialogue with the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East John X and Serbian Patriarch Irinej. They appealed to Constantinople seeking to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, Interfax news agency reports.

In their opinion, there is a very alarming situation in the Orthodox world. If it continues, it will eventually lead to a long-term split between all members of the Orthodox Church.

The patriarchs John X and Irinej remind that there is one church. It is not a certain federation or confederation of separate and independent churches which act on the basis of their interests.

"Only Orthodox catholicity will prevent churches from conflicts turning into split which would threaten the unity of Orthodoxy", religious leaders claim in their joint statement.

According to Russkiy Mir, the Constantinople Synod abolished its decision taken in the 17th century to transfer Kiev Metropolitanate to the Moscow Patriarchate. The Synod announced the start of preparation to create an autocephalous church in Kiev and rehabilitation of the Ukrainian schismatic church leaders.

The Russian Orthodox Church broke relations with the Patriarchate of Constantinople as ROC did not accept the Constantinople decision.
