The current situation in Ukraine threatens to Russian compatriots, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin says. They may face violent Ukrainization, Izvestia newspaper writes.

He notes that the Russian authorities ensure a respect attitude to Russian compatriots living abroad. In this regard, Russia is concerned by the position of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine and in the Baltic States.

The diplomat assures that Russia is well aware of self-sacrifice and courage required from the participants of humanitarian actions in defense of the Russian language, their faith and their traditions. Kiev adopted a law on education, a language law is under discussion, the representative of the foreign ministry reminds. Recently the Peacemaker website published personal data of almost 150 activists of Russian compatriots' organizations. This violates human rights and contradicts the democratic principles.

The MFA has already sent a protest to all international structures, Grigory Karasin adds. The ministry would surely follow the international community reaction to such an outrageous fact.

The situation in Latvia, where the Russian-language education is actually eliminated became more critical, the Deputy Foreign Minister claims.

In addition, the persecution of Russian-speaking communities' leaders intensified in the Baltic States and in some other countries. Sometimes it goes beyond all boundaries and turns into a real repression. The activists face the special services and are included in blacklists.

According to Russkiy Mir, one of the advocates of the Russian-language education Alexander Gaponenko spent several months in a Latvian prison.
