Russian students win four awards on International Astronomy Olympiad

Russian students from Moscow and Moscow region schools have got four awards on the International Astronomical Olympiad (IAO), according to the Russian Education portal. They won gold, silver and bronze medals. Young participants coped well with the tasks of theoretical, practical and observational rounds.

Student from Moscow school Alexey Shishkin got the title of absolute winner in the senior group.

Ivan Yaschenko, the Center for Pedagogical Excellence head, called this success a great incentive which sparkles interest in astronomy. Despite the stereotype that this is an outdated and even obsolete science, astronomy moves forward and develops very rapidly. It require deep knowledge in various topics. Now it is extremely fascinating to master the subject with modern technologies.

The Olympiad was held in Colombo, Sri Lankan's capital.
