Street in Uganda capital named after Yuri Gagarin

The name of Yuri Gagarin appeared on the map of Uganda's capital, TASS reports. One of Kampala's streets now bears the name of the first space explorer. The solemn ceremony of the opening a memorial plaque took place in an African country on Octomber 17. Russian Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Alexey Volin participated in of the ceremony.

The ministry says that the proposal to perpetuate the name of the space explorer appeared a year ago. The idea was discussed during a meeting between Alexey Volin and Uganda President Yoweri Museveni. In addition, during the Russian delegation visit to Uganda there were negotiations of the co-chairmen of the Intergovernmental Russian-Ugandan Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

According to Russkiy Mir, recently monuments to Yuri Gagarin have appeared in many countries.

For almost eight years, the Dialogue of Cultures - United World Fund implements the project for the Gagarin monuments installation. It presented about 50 monuments to the European countries, America and Asia. Representatives of the foundation emphasize that the purpose of such projects is to bring people from different cultures together.
