The Alexandrov Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army has marked its anniversary. The collective is widely known for its wonderful programs and legendary history - it was the Alexandrov Ensemble that sang the Russian national song in 2013, TASS reports.

The team counts its age from the first concert on October 12, 1928. That time the ensemble consisted of only 12 artists. The team is named after the composer Alexander Alexandrov, its first music director. His Sacred War song became a hymn to resistance to the enemy - soldiers went into battle with these legendary lines.

Political hysteria around Russia and the Russian army did not prevent the ensemble from being very popular all over the world. In the coming months it will give concerts in eight countries. After the plane crush which carried the lives of singers and Valery Khalilov, the artistic director of the ensemble, in December 2015, the team received many condolences from around the world.

The singers celebrated the ensemble anniversary with their fans on October 5. Military and folk songs, Russian romances, arias from operas and spiritual works were performed in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. The audience also saw the dashing dancing and heard the masterly playing of the ensemble's musicians.
