Yuri Grigorovich Ballet Theater has launched a tour around Greece on October 10, TASS reports. Spartacus will take place in the open air at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus ancient amphitheater in the Greek capital.

According to the most famous choreographer, Spartacus marks 50th anniversary this year. First, it was shown at the Bolshoi Theater, 10 years later it was performed in Athens also in the ancient Greek amphitheater. The audience welcomed the performance, Yuri Grigorovich recalls. The tickets for all 6000 seats were sold out. The choreographer notes that the artists stressed out before the performance. Natalia Bessmertnova and Mikhail Lavrovsky, Ekaterina Maksimova and Vladimir Vasilyev, Nina Timofeeva and Maris Liepa then performed the main roles. The audience was on its feet applauding for a few minutes.

Yuri Grigorovich hopes to repeat the success today. There are viewers who saw the ballet forty years ago, he explains.

On October 10, the stars of the Bolshoi Theater Denis Rodkin, Alexander Volchkov, Maria Vinogradova and Ekaterina Shipulina will perform on the stage.

In addition to Spartacus Russian dancers brought to Athens other concerts. Megaron the Athens Concert Hall will be the stage for the Russian ballet brand performance - Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich.
