The 19th Russian-Finnish cultural forum will be launched in the city of Savonlinna, Finland, TASS reports. The occasion hosted by the city for the first time takes place every year in one of the two countries. Nearly 400 people working in cultural sphere in Russia and Finland will gather there.

Cultural tourism will be on the forum's agenda. The city authorities note that Savonlinna offers a lot in this regard.

Within the forum, a seminar of Russia and Finland historians and other specialists will be held. Everyone is allowed to assist there to hear the speakers.

City authorities are convinced that the more actively cooperation develops, the more opportunities to diversify cultural life and tourism appear.

Savonlinna Mayor Janne Laine says that the city has strong ties with many Russian cultural institutions such as Bolshoi, Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky theaters. The city plans to establish contacts with the Hermitage Museum.

Savonlinna and St. Petersburg are developing a joint tourist route between the two cities. The project costs about one million euros.
