Budapest remains an important and reliable Russian partner in Europe, said Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 18 after the negotiations with the Hungarian government head, Victor Orban, Vesti broadcaster reports.

The Russian leader called Hungary one of the key partners on the continent. This is especially important during the deteriorating relations between Russia and other EU countries.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated good relations with Vladimir Putin. He noted that Hungary will continue to work on many projects meeting the interests of both countries despite EU and NATO advice. According to Viktor Orban, reliability is very valuable on the global stage.

Orban often goes to Russia, last time he met the Russian President two months ago.

During the talks, Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orban discussed cooperation in the humanitarian and economic spheres. In particular, they plan to increase the trade turnover to 10 billion dollars a year. It is constantly growing and even sanctions can not prevent it.

Energy sector was another significant topic for Russian and Hungarian leaders' discussion. Budapest hopes that the Turkish Stream gas pipeline could pass through Hungarian territory. In addition, the Paks Nuclear Power Plant construction is underway. Rosatom is building two additional units of it.

Intensive ties across the regions are maintained. An intergovernmental commission on regional cooperation will be established to intensify the work. Its first meeting will be scheduled on 2018.

In relation to the humanitarian sphere a bilateral program of interaction in the cultural sphere until 2020 was recently approved. As Russkiy Mir reported, Russia and Hungary plan to sign an agreement on mutual recognition of diplomas.
