Leo Tolstoy's 190th birth anniversary was celebrated at Yasnaya Polyana, the writer's house museum, on September 9, TASS reports.

One of the central events of the celebrations was the 13th International Meeting of Writers. Modern writers gather as usual in Yasnaya Polyana for the Russian classic's anniversary. Evgeniy Vodolazkin and Guzel Yakhina participated in the meeting. They presented their new novels Brisbane and My Children to the public.

According to Vladimir Tolstoy, the Russian President's cultural adviser, it is impossible to overestimate the significance of this action. The most interesting contemporary authors whose works are popular among readers visit Tolstoy's museum every year. It means that the Tolstoy's work is continued today, assures the descendant of the War and Peace and Anna Karenina author.

The writer Andrei Rubanov, the poet Vladimir Ermakov and other authors attended the Word of Tolstoy event. They discussed his work and its influence on them. The researcher of Tolstoy's work Catherine Brown from Great Britain expressed her respect for the strength of the writer's civic position.

Free 10-minute excursions were organized for all visitors on that day.

The War and Peace audio play attracted much interest. Visitors could hear it in headphones while walking around the estate. The text was based on the diaries and letters of Leo Tolstoy and his wife as well as excerpts from the most famous work of the writer.

Celebrations took place in Yasnaya Polyana, Tula and other parts of the region.

Pavel Basinsky discussed with the guests the writer's attitude to women. Slovenian writer Vlado Jabota and pianist Nikolai Lugansky performed at the event.
