Russian compatriots living in the northern region of Italy gathered for a Memory Watch. There were students of Russian schools, including the Harmony Milan school, the Azbuka Turin school and the Unita Udine school, as well as their teachers, parents and participants of compatriot organizations from Milan, Turin, Udine and Bolzano as well as priests of the Russian Orthodox Church joined them.

On September 8 and 9 they cleaned up the Russian soldiers tombs in Brunico mountain cemetery in the forest. The church service opened the occasion, and then the children visited the museum of local lore.

The Comunita Russa di Milano – ARS and the Merano Russian Center named after Nadezhda Borodina, organized the action.

Nearly 800 soldiers who died in captivity during the First World War were buried in the cemetery in the woods not far from the Italian city of Brunico. More than a hundred Russian soldiers and officers are among them. Their graves are topped off with wooden crosses installed by the captives more than 100 years ago. The city women's committee looks after the cemetery. They also monitor the condition of the crosses. If they decay members of the committee replace them with the exact copies.
