Russia promises to support Russian schools in Kazakhstan

The conference of Russian compatriots in Kazakhstan took place on September 7 in Almaty, Sputnik news agency reports. Leaders of public organizations, diplomats, politicians and clergymen from Russia and abroad were invited by the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots of Kazakhstan. The executive director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vladimir Kochin attended the large-scale event.

All the speakers attached to compatriots in Kazakhstan an important role in strengthening interethnic harmony and ties between countries. The Russian ambassador in Kazakhstan Alexei Borodavkin confirmed it pointing to the Russia-Kazakhstan trade boost (up to $ 20 billion). The emphasis in the diplomat's speech was still made on humanitarian and cultural cooperation.

Cultural exchange, Russian-language education developmentand and increasung number of quotas for foreigners to Russian universities were on the forum’s argenda.

The Russian authorities will grant the financial assistance to the schools with Russian-language education. The head of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev noted that the support may be given next year. In 2021 a separate Russian School bsubprogram will be launched abroad.

Russia also intends to increase foreign students admission to its universities. The Federation Council with the personal participation of Valentina Matvienko, the Speaker of the Upper Chamber of the Russian Parliament, is seeking to increase government quotas for foreign students in Russian universities. Their number may double from fifteen to thirty thousand within a year.
