A memorial plate in honor of the Russian soldiers died during the First World War appeared in Ghent, Belgium, he Russian diplomatic mission in Brussels writes on its Facebook.

A commemorative sign is located in the Westerbegraafplaats municipal cemetery in Ghent. It was installed on the place where twelve Russian soldiers are buried.

The solemn opening ceremony of a memorial sign was held on September 5. Russian diplomats led by the Russian ambassador to Belgium Alexander Tokovinin, local and regional authorities, local residents and Russian compatriots living in the country took part in it.

The members of the delegation from St. Petersburg joined them. The celebration was timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of sister-city ties between Saint Petersburg and Antwerp. Many various events are dedicated to the anniversary.

The Russian Consulate General initiated the installation of the memorable sign. Its proposal was supported by the Russian-Belgian Sputnik friendship society.
