L'Art Russe festival to take place in Cannes

The 21st Festival de L'Art Russe will be traditionally held at the end of August in Cannes, Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports. The State Song and Dance Ensemble of Tatarstan is the first to take stage in the Palace of Festivals and Conferences on August 23.

A requiem mass for fallen soldiers will habitually take place at the Grand Jas memorial before the opening ceremony.

The Russian Night gala concert takes the central place of the festival. It culminates in the awarding the guests with a badge of honor for outstanding contribution into reinforcement of cultural ties between Russia and France. This year the badge goes to an actress and writer Masha Meril, the composer Michel Legrand's wife. He also has the badge. Masha was born in France but in a Russian family. Masha Meril (Maria Gagarina) actively promotes Russian culture abroad for many years.

The new Russian films to be on display for residents and guests of the Côte d'Azur. The festival program includes the pictures of Bolshoi by Todorovsky, Rock by Shakhnazarov and White Yagel by Tumayev.

The program surely includes the Russian ballet. The performance of the Natalia Sats Moscow Children's Music Theater is timed to the anniversary of Marius Petipa. This French choreographer is the founder of the Russian ballet. His 200 birth anniversary is this year.

Diaghilev's Russian Seasons will finalize the festival with Scheherazade, Les Sylphides and Polovtsian Dances.
