On July 24 2018, the Russian State Duma hosted a meeting between Russian deputies and American experts on questions of the arms control.
Commenting the outcome of the meeting, the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science Vyacheslav Nikonov has advised the following:
«Quite positive that the American partners showed interest in keeping the arms under control and in the corresponding negotiation formats which, unfortunately, do not properly function at present.

«In my presentation, I expressed some interest of Russia in prolongation of the CHB-3 contract which is to terminate in 2021 and keeping the agreements on liquidation of the short and intermediate range missiles, which evokes many questions. Besides, I confirmed the necessity to strengthen the regime of nuclear non-proliferation seriously jeopardized by the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal.

Russian-American conference on the arms control has been organized on the Russian State Duma premises in tandem with the Institute for the US and Canadian studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Russian delegation included the Institute Director Sergei Rogov and more than 10 State Duma deputies. The American delegation consisted of the leading experts such as ex-Advisor of Department on Scientific - Technical politics of the US President Matthew Bunn, ex-Senior Advisor of the US Deputy State Secretary on arms control Alexander Bell and others.
