IA Sputnik Latvia senior editor Valentins Rozencovs has been detained in Riga. In his words, he flew from Moscow to Riga yesterday’s evening and was immediately caught by the security police, RIA Novosti informs.

According to the state security police, the journalist was detained to talk. The conversation lasted around 12 hours. The security police was interested in the journalist’s activities as the editor-in-chief and performance of IA Sputnik in the Baltic Republic. Rozencovs who has the Latvian citizenship and came to Riga for business was released  only in the morning.

This was a conversation off the record. The journalist explained that such an activity in Latvia is not a formal arrest.

The intelligence services of the republic are closely following the Russian-speaking journalists on the territory of Latvia. Thus, at the beginning of June, they searched the flat of Yuri Alekseyev. They failed to find any forbidden objects, so they confiscated his new PC and telephone again.

Russian journalists face difficulties working at Ukraine. Kirill Vyshinsky was detained and put under custody in Kiev. The editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti-Ukraine has been accused of the state treason under a contrived pretext.
