On the Memorial Day Russian compatriots, Russian missions' representatives, public activists of Germany, along with people from other countries lighted Candles of Memory on  June 22 paying tribute to the day when the Great Patriotic War began,. In Berlin the action was conducted at the sculpture of a Red Army soldier in Tiergarten, Berlin, Russkoe Pole website informs. 

Public activist Oleg Musuka shared his impressions of the participation in the Memorial Day action. Back in his hometown Odessa, he regularly takes part in various memorial events at the Unknown Sailor memorial in the Central Park of Culture and Recreation of Taras Shevchenko. But in Berlin “heart increasingly pounding, and hands hold flagstaff base more tight, because here, in Berlin, Fascism was defeated.” 

Germans visiting Russia for the FIFA World Cup have also joined the Memorial Day events. The head of the association of professional German football clubs brought flowers to the Eternal Flame memorial in Sochi.
