The memorial plaque in honor of Yuri Gagarin appeared in the Bendor Island in France, IA Interfax reports. The first cosmonaut of the planet had vacation there in 1961.

Head of Department for Foreign Economic and Trade Relations of Moscow Sergei Cheryomin and Head of Russian Consulate General in Marseille Sergei Molchanov.

A memorial plaque is of golden color depicting Gagarin’s portrait in the helmet.

Orchestra of children’s military school was playing before the gala opening ceremony.

Bendor is a small private island situated in Bandol province in the south part of France. It belongs to Paul Ricard who invited Gagarin to take vacation on his island.

According to Sergei Cheryomin, the fact, many historians were not aware of, proves strong friendship between Russian and French nations.

Note that several days ago a memorial to the first cosmonaut was installed in Brazzaville. It became a symbol of reinforcing friendship between the Russian and Kongo nations.

Busts of Yuri Gagarin appeared in Panama and South Korea dedicated to the 57th anniversary of the first manned space flight.
