The Kremlin positively assessed Trump and Kim Jong-un summit

13.06.2018

The meeting of American and North Korean leaders helped to move the Korean Peninsula’s crisis off the dangerous line, according to Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. In his opinion, the outcome of summit is yet to be scrutinized and analyzed, but the beginning of a direct dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang can be nothing but welcomed, RIA Novosti informs.

Press Secretary has mentioned that such meetings facilitate de-escalation of tension, regardless of their outcome. This cannot fail to have a positive impression, he added.

Peskov has underlined that the story is too complicated and has been developing for a long time. So we cannot hope that this knot of questions can be untangled in no time.

The American-North Korean summit proves that Vladimir Putin was absolutely right to state that there was not any alternative to diplomatic ways of resolving the problem at the Korean Peninsula. The only possible way is a direct dialogue.

Note that Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un met the day before in Singapore for the first time in history.  The outcome of their talks was signing a bilateral agreement. According to this document, Washington is obliged to guarantee safety to Pyongyang. North Korean leader, in his turn, committed to ultimate de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
